At the age of 22 he found his true vocation as an artist. Arthur was an important catalyst of artistic activity in the North-East of England for over 20 years. Arthur inspired & encouraged many younger artists and writers, despite a continuing struggle for his own daily survival. In 1987, Arthur & his wife, Carla moved to Italy. The house and his studio which they totally rebuilt themselves is the new home of "Presse de l'Exile", which he founded in Hartlepool in 1965. Arthur Hunter-Blair, the reclusive artist, having exhibited at Saddlers Wells, London & Paris, has achieved International recognition for his work.
